EMERITUS FAQ

Below are frequently asked questions (FAQs) about Emeritus Membership.

If you have further questions or want to begin the process, please contact Karen Hanneman, Membership Coordinator, at membership@drra.org.

WHAT IS A DRRA EMERITUS?
The DRRA Emeritus member status at Donaldson Run is a membership type available to qualifying Shareholders that allows continued access to the pool without incurring the Shareholder annual fee. It is primarily a pay-as-you-go option.

DO I QUALIFY TO BE A DRRA EMERITUS?

    • Either you or your spouse must be a Shareholder and 63 years old or older.
    • The DRRA Emeritus status applies to both spouses in the household.

IF I CHOOSE TO BECOME A DRRA EMERITUS, WHAT HAPPENS?

    • You resign from Shareholding status and become a DRRA Emeritus member.
    • DRRA refunds the amount of capital you have invested in the pool.
    • You no longer pay Shareholder dues.
    • Your name remains in our database and your number changes to include the letter E after the numerals.
    • Once you become Emeritus you cannot return to Shareholding status.

AS A DRRA EMERITUS, MAY I STILL USE THE POOL?

    • Prior to visiting the pool for the first time each season, Emeritus Members must register online and pay a $50 processing fee to DRRA to be an ACTIVE Emeritus member. This fee includes 10 pool passes for Emeritus Members to use. If you won’t be visiting the pool at all this summer, you don’t need to register or pay the fee.
    • Each year you can elect to be ACTIVE (by registering) or INACTIVE (do nothing). You can elect to be active at any time before or during the season by registering and paying $50.
    • ACTIVE Emeritus, you (and your spouse), are allowed to visit DRRA anytime it is open to members. If you purchase aerobics and/or yoga class passes, when you attend those classes, the number of your remaining pool passes will not be impacted. If you need more than the pre-loaded 10 passes during the summer, you may simply pay the guest fee which at the moment is $10 per person ($15 on July 4th).

AS A DRRA EMERITUS, MAY I STILL BRING MY FAMILY? GRANDKIDS? GUESTS?
Emeritus members can bring guests 10 times but they must accompany their guests and both parties must pay the designated guest fee.

HOW DO I CONFIRM IF MY SHAREHOLDER MEMBERSHIP TRANSFERS WITH THE SALE OF MY HOUSE, AND DOES BEING A DRRA EMERITUS AFFECT THIS SITUATION?
If you have a membership with a number under 1720 you currently are eligible to transfer rights to immediate shareholder membership to the person who buys your home. The new owner moves to the top of the waitlist and can join immediately at the new capital investment rate by taking your place. This right ends when you become a DRRA Emeritus.

PLEASE PROVIDE A SIMPLE EXAMPLE.  HOW DO I KNOW IF THIS IS FOR ME?

The Shareholder dues for 2 people in 2025 is $660. They would have unlimited use of the pool and could buy unlimited guest passes during the season.

If they have registered as ACTIVE Emeritus in 2025, they have unlimited use of the pool for themselves and a limit of 10 guests a season. The big difference is that they would not pay the $660 in dues but pay $50 processing fee for 10 passes, and $10 each time they go to the pool after the intial 10. They also get their Shareholder capital investment back.

If they do not want to be active Emeritus members this season, they pay nothing and get their Shareholder capital investment back.

Each season Emeritus Members have the option to register and become active or remain inactive.

To summarize this simple example:

Consider the DRRA Emeritus Status

    • The Shareholder or spouse meets the minimum age requirement of 63 years old.
    • Your family will use the pool less than 71 times (including guest passes) this season.
    • You would like your capital investment back.

Remain a Shareholder and not consider the DRRA Emeritus Status

    • Your family will use the pool more than 71 times this season.
    • You have a membership with a number under 1720 and you want to retain the rights to transfer immediate shareholder membership to the person who buys your home.

Your specific membership situation is unique based upon the number of family members and tenure at the pool.  We are willing to help you understand what the DRRA Emeritus is about and help you decide if DRRA Emeritus is the right membership option for you.
